Back to School Goal Setting Freebie!
Well, it's that time of year when, even though we've got a whole month until the kiddos start back, I've got school on the brain. Cya later summer, relaxing....dunzo. I've stayed up the last few nights until 3 am working on god knows what (thanks, Pinterest) in excitement/ anxiousness for the new school year.
While my apartment is a mess and I haven't got much to show for it...
I did manage to whip up a little activity I'd like to share with you all. I've been thinking a lot about the goals that I've been working toward personally (running a half marathon, eating healthier, actually making 1/4 of the bazillion recipes I've been pinning...) and how I could use this to motive my students to set and achieve meaningful goals this year. I plan on really focusing on setting a goal that is meaningful and attainable (not just whatever their neighbor's goal is) for them, and using myself and my running as an example. We will talk about how once you make a goal, you need to think of a plan for how you are going to meet it (example: I can't just go from sitting on the couch watching TV every night to running 13 miles, I have to make a plan and actually run every week to build up to it).
I also really wanted to include the element of what can you do at HOME to help achieve your goals as well as at school. This gets the parents involved and gives students something to be excited about working on when they go home. I also included surveys/ self assessments for the fall, winter, spring and end of the year so that it's something we continue to think about and follow through with throughout the year. I plan on using these during parent-teacher conferences to discuss student progress as well.
Here is the poster you can use to define and introduce goals:

And here are the activity sheets that go with it:

Happy Goal-Setting :)
